There’s no getting around it. The automotive industry is slowly but surely making the transition from gas to electricity - or in some cases, a combination of the two. But here in North America, Kia’s plans for electrification won’t be complete until they reach their goal of adding seven dedicated EVs to their lineup by 2027. According to Car and Driver, “affordable, fuel-efficient, gasoline-powered cars still outnumber electric cars, and they have a lock on the under-$30,000 category—for now.” So we thought we’d share Kia’s most fuel-efficient models so you can save the planet while you save at the pump!
Kia Forte - 6.72L/100km
This IIHS Top Safety Pick has been a leader in the compact car category since it launched in the Korean market over 13 years ago. The 2021 Kia Forte comes fully equipped with a 147 horsepower inline-four cylinder engine, along with an especially fuel-efficient CVT. It’s no surprise the Forte was named one of 2021’s ‘Best Cars for the Money,’ boasting an impressive 5.74L/100km on the highway. Kia’s latest Forte starts at just $18,160, and will take you 743 kilometres per tank of gas.

Kia Rio - 6.53L/100km
Starting at $19,040, the 2021 Kia Rio is powered by a 120 horsepower 1.6-litre engine and CVT, and ranks third overall among Car and Driver’s most fuel-efficient cars. As the winner of AutoTrader’s ‘Best Subcompact Car’ for 2021 and The Car Guide’s ‘Best Buys for 2021,’ it should come as no surprise that Kia’s little sedan also goes the furthest of any vehicle on Car and Driver’s list - reaching an EPA-estimated 789 kilometers on a single tank of gas.
