Did you know that in 2024, nearly 1 out of every 10 vehicles sold in Canada was a hybrid? Hybrids are a no-compromise solution to the fuel cost battle that steals far too many dollars from a family's wallet, and the Carnival people-mover is the latest Kia to benefit from a hybrid offering.
Kia's experience in the hybrid arena stretches back to the 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid and also includes dedicated green vehicles like the Niro. In addition to a wide range of battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles – both of which plug in – Kia's current HEV (hybrid-electric vehicle) lineup includes the Sportage, Sorento, Niro, and now, the Carnival HEV.
The Carnival Hybrid's fuel savings are immense.
Kia's conventional 2025 Carnival continues with the LX, LX+, EX, EX+, SX, and SX+ trim levels. The 2025 Carnival Hybrid is available as an LX+, EX, and SX+. Compared to the conventional Carnival with its 287-horsepower V6 engine, the Carnival Hybrid utilizes a turbocharged four-cylinder that's paired to a 72-horsepower electric motor for a combined 242 horsepower. The Carnival Hybrid actually generates more torque than the Carnival's V6.
It's the fuel savings, however, where the real differences kick into gear. According to Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency, the Carnival Hybrid is expected to consume 3.9 fewer litres of fuel every 100 kilometres in combined city/highway driving.
It's actually the urban environments where the Carnival Hybrid excels most, cutting fuel consumption from 12.9 L/100km down to 6.9 L/100km. There are highway savings, too, as the Carnival Hybrid is rated at 7.6 L/100km compared to 8.8 L/100km in the regular Carnival.
| KIA | City | Highway | Combined | Fuel Costs For 20,000 KMs @ $1.75/litre |
| 2025 Carnival | 12.9 L/100km | 8.8 L/100km | 11.1 L/100km | $3,885 |
| 2025 Carnival HEV | 6.9 L/100km | 7.6 L/100km | 7.2 L/100km | $2,520 |
Ah, but surely to save nearly $1,400/year in fuel requires spending a lot more to get a Carnival Hybrid costs a lot more?
Nope.
In each of the three Carnival trims, the Hybrid only costs an extra $2,546, to be precise. Those are the kinds of costs that are offset very quickly by the Carnival HEV's fuel savings, and even faster the more in-town driving you do.
2025 Kia Carnival Hybrids began arriving at Centennial Kia in mid-January.
